Why have Cheadle taken this decision? As you are probably already aware, field lacrosse no longer features on the curriculum of any of our local schools and, as a consequence, the future of our game now rests entirely with the Clubs, and in particular with their ability to introduce and retain young players in the game via a Junior Development Scheme.
Over the years, we have been fortunate at Cheadle in
that the nucleus of our Junior sides has been maintained largely by the active
involvement of our older players and their families.
We have now recognised however, that we need to do
more in order to maintain the strength of the Junior sides, both in terms of
numbers and ability.
As a result, the Club's management
committee has
taken the decision that, for the first time in the Club's history, we should join
the English Lacrosse Association Local Development Scheme and employ, for the
coming season, an American coach to promote the Sport in local schools with the
specific object of recruiting more Junior players and also act as a player
coach within the Club.
The
committee is viewing this development as a five-year programme, which obviously
will be reviewed along the way. |
